Research First. Connect When You’re Ready.

Pickwise helps you understand the project, compare the choices and connect with relevant professionals serving your area — without pretending to be the company doing the work.

We check credentials

Before a professional joins our network we review licensing and insurance details for the states they say they serve.

We check track record

We look at how long a company has been operating, the work they specialise in and how they handle homeowner enquiries.

We keep the network small

We would rather match you with fewer, better-suited professionals than pass your details to everyone who asks for them.

We remove who doesn't measure up

Companies that stop meeting our standards, or that homeowners repeatedly report issues with, are removed from the network.

Your details are handled carefully

We match your enquiry to professionals suited to your project and location, and handle your information in line with our Privacy Policy.

Being matched is never a recommendation to buy, and there is no obligation to go ahead with anything. If nothing feels right, walking away costs you nothing.

Research. Understand. Compare. Connect.

What Changes A HVAC Quote

No two homes are the same, which is why comparing matters. These are the decisions that move the number most.

Correct sizing

Oversized equipment short-cycles, cools unevenly and wears out early. A contractor should run a Manual J load calculation, not just match the tonnage of what's there now.

Efficiency ratings

SEER2 for cooling, AFUE for furnaces, HSPF2 for heat pumps. Higher ratings cost more upfront and pay back fastest in extreme climates with high utility rates.

Heat pump vs. furnace

Cold-climate heat pumps now work well far north, and often pair with a backup heat source. Which makes sense depends on your winters and your gas versus electric rates.

Ductwork condition

Leaky or undersized ducts undo the benefit of new equipment. Ask whether the quote includes duct sealing, static pressure testing or any modifications.

Rebates and credits

Federal credits for qualifying heat pumps and high-efficiency equipment, plus utility rebates, can take a meaningful amount off. Ask which ones your quote assumes.

Labor warranty and service

Equipment warranties often require registration and annual maintenance. The labor warranty and who answers the phone in July matter just as much.

What Homeowners Typically Pay

Central AC replacement

Installed

$5,000 – $12,000
Gas furnace replacement

Installed

$4,000 – $10,000
Heat pump (whole home)
$8,000 – $20,000
Ductless mini-split (per zone)
$3,000 – $7,000
Diagnostic or service call
$90 – $250

Typical US ranges. Home size, ductwork, efficiency tier and local labor rates change these figures — Pickwise does not quote prices.

Questions Worth Asking

  • Did you run a Manual J load calculation for my home?
  • What SEER2, AFUE or HSPF2 rating is this equipment, and why that tier?
  • Does the quote include any ductwork repair, sealing or modification?
  • Which rebates or tax credits are you assuming, and who files them?
  • What does the labor warranty cover, and what's your emergency response time?
